Its All About the Light

Sometimes all you need is the setting sun and your iPhone to take a great picture.

Tonight at dinner I noticed the light hitting Rocco. He was watching me intently while I enjoyed my steak. I was watching him while the light from the setting sun highlighted his sweet face. The light was so beautiful that I just had to try and capture it.

Luckily my iPhone was nearby.

Sure, I have my lovely Canon 60D, but I decided to just use what was nearby. In the end it still turned out to be a nice photo! No filters, no fancy camera. All it took was an iPhone and recognizing when to take advantage of some great natural lighting. :)

What a year!

(Warning: There are a lot of exclamation marks in this post!)

Its been such a great year and I’m so thankful for all the wonderful things that have happened!

I am definitely a believer now more than ever, that if you want something, you have to make it happen. Each project I worked on this year led me one step closer to starting my Etsy shop, which became a reality in October!

What better way to end this year, than to see my work in print among other artists from around the world!

Each artist that participated in the Limited Edition Sketchbook had one of their spreads featured in an edition of a book based on the theme they chose. I chose Pictures and Descriptions as my theme and was happy to see they chose the spread I had hoped would be printed!

So proud of my urchin!

So proud!

A huge thank you to everyone that supported me this year. It has meant the world to me!

I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without my co-pilot and number one fan. Whenever I got discouraged, he gave me just the right amount of encouragement and reassurance to keep me going…without him I’d still be dreaming of having an Etsy shop, not actually having one. Thank you Dan for your love and support every day!

I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones and enjoying some time off to enjoy whatever makes you happy. :)

Here’s to many more artsy adventures in 2013!

A smile is contagious

I think my favourite part of photographing the Grande Prairie Triathlon this past Sunday was watching the athletes celebrate as they crossed the finish line. Their smiles were contagious. Family and friends were beaming with pride. Children were waiting by the side lines with homemade signs and flowers for their moms and dads participating in the race. There were embraces, tears, laughter and no doubt, exhaustion! There was every range of emotions all within a few feet and I got to see it all. All that positive energy made me so giddy that I almost considered doing a triathlon. Almost.

Here are some of my favourite moments. I hope it captures some of the energy and love that was present that morning and it makes you smile wherever you are! :)
