Over a year ago when we were visiting Portland, Oregon, I purchased some roving and a drop spindle. I had never spun yarn before and I’m not sure what made me want to try. Maybe I just can’t get enough of yarn and fibre! Regardless, after a year of thinking about it I finally decided to give it a go.
I found this video on YouTube that helped guide me through the process. She makes it seem so easy!
So I got started…let’s just say they don’t call it a drop spindle for nothing!! There was a lot of dropping and cursing! At one point I said, “I think I am getting the hang of this!” Which was immediately followed by a moment of truth… “Well, that statement is totally going to come back to bite me!”
Eventually I got a bit better and the dropping and cursing became less and less frequent and yarn began to appear on the spindle!
By the time I got to the end of my roving, I was sweating and my biceps (or whatever those muscles are in your arms) were aching! What a workout! Plus, I had a bullet shaped ball of yarn. Not bad!
Decided to spin the other ball of roving that I had as well.
It didn’t make a lot of yarn but I really enjoyed the whole process. I wish my gauge was more consistent though. Its really uneven. I have no idea what to knit from it. Any ideas?
